Contemplation

Contemplation is a reflective spiritual practice that invites focused attention on a spiritual idea, quality, or truth in order to deepen understanding and embodiment. Unlike meditation, which emphasizes mental quiet and receptivity, contemplation engages the mind in a gentle, intentional way—holding an idea with curiosity, reverence, and openness. In the New Thought tradition, contemplation is a way of aligning thought with spiritual principle so that insight naturally unfolds.

The Practice

Contemplation begins by choosing a spiritual concept, statement, or question, such as peace, abundance, love, or a spiritual truth drawn from sacred writings or personal insight. The practitioner enters a calm, centered state—often after a few moments of meditation—and gently brings the chosen idea into awareness.

Rather than analyzing or debating the idea, contemplation involves resting attention upon it and allowing meaning to emerge organically. The practitioner may silently reflect on how the idea applies to their life, notice feelings or images that arise, or sense a deeper resonance beyond words. Periods of silence often alternate with gentle reflection, allowing insight to surface without effort.

Contemplation is unhurried. It is less about arriving at conclusions and more about cultivating understanding, awareness, and alignment.
